MANDARIN ORIENTAL

(1) Industrial Design

In 2016 I developed Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s signature fan as the visual representation of the new Mandarin Oriental, Doha. I delved deep into the nation’s culture and history through extensive research to identify a powerful artistic solution which communicates unique and intriguing messages about Doha. I drew inspiration from the nine-pointed serrated edge of the Qatari flag, the stories of Doha city, past and present, and the vibrant visual elements which make up the fabric of the city. As a result, the ‘Doha fan’ represents the core values of the international group – hospitality, experiences and magical charm – enriched with its own local relevancies and touch points. It has been celebrated throughout the Mandarin organisation and the design elements from the fan have been extended across all hotel touch points which include the full range of hotel brand applications, corporate gifts as well as environmental graphics. The fan design has become the soul and identity of Mandarin Oriental, Doha.

I developed the project during my time as Creative Director at Grow in Qatar. It won in 2017 a SILVER at Transform Awards Mena in the categorie "Best Localisation of an International Brand".
